Terenure College participated in the St. Andrews 18th Annual International Model United Nations (SAIMUN) from 10th - 13th April 2006 representing three countries: Japan, Senegal, and Columbia. A high level of constructive debate took place around several topics which are of importance to the world today, including: the question of Chechnya, the question of religious extremism, the question of the rights of children in armed conflict, the question of the arms race in developing countries, the question of global warming, the question of domestic violence and the question of the creation of a United Nations standing army among other issues. The College's participation at the conference was the conclusion of several months of work directed by Mr. Joe McDonnell, especially at Friday lunchtimes in the College.
