Second year - Munich Tour
Lead by Mr. Healy the annual second year tours are without doubt one of the highlights of the year for pupils. Tours and trips away offer a unique experience to students, among other benefits they provide an opportunity to:
1. Reinforces classroom material
The boys on their trip will encounter some material that they have studied and will study over their years in the college. The experience on tour may allow this material to come to life, it gives students the opportunity to visualise, experience and discuss the information, allowing students to recall the experience long after the trip (Salmi, 2003; Falk & Dierking, 1997; Wolins, Jensen, & Ulzheimer, 1992).
2. Encourages students to learn
Many of the visitors centres etc use multimedia to visually grab attention and encourage students to partake in an enjoyable learning experience. It allows for a multisensory learning experience away from the classroom.
3. A cultural experience
The tour may also be a fantastic opportunity to bring students out of their comfort zone. It provides an opportunity to experience diversity of culture. Such an opportunity allows a greater depth and understanding of the world beyond what is seen on a day-to-day basis. Such an experience may trigger ideas and an a problem solving ability, that may not stem from their familiar comforts and habits (Miller, 2013).
4. Friendship and fun
The new environment provides an opportunity for students to work as a team with other classmates outside of their normal group. Not only that, but they forge life long memories from their experiences with their peers.
