Les Nouvelles Vedettes
On a chilly Wednesday morning in January 2007, boys from Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Year French classes were treated to a play done completely in French by native speaking French actors and actresses. Through the hard work of Ms. Taraquois the French Theatre for Schools kindly came and acted out their play “Les Nouvelles Vedettes” or “The New Stars” for the school pupils in the Concert Hall.
The play was centred around the theme of the historic Ireland v France rugby match in Croke Park and was about the journey four French friends had in attempting to get to the match in Croker despite having no money. To help with their attempt the four are offered a job in a rugby jersey making factory and also enter in a French television competition with the aim of winning the €4,000 prize money, quite enough to cover a weekend in Dublin.
A good aspect of the play was the amount of participation from the audience where budding actors got their chance to shine while those who were not so enthusiastic were involved in song and dance , much to the amusement of their fellow pupils. A great time was had by all, and many hope to see a return of the French Theatre next year.
