CARE WEEK - 7th to 11th of April 2008 AIMS OF CARE WEEK:
Our Religious Education Programme under Aims and Vision states that we seek to; “help our pupils to grow in their faith and relationship with God” (p.2) and under Experience it states; “. . . we would hope to provide as much experimental learning as possible in R.E. . . .” (p.5). Care Week therefore seeks to offer opportunities for pupils to experience the world of those who need care in our society due to their age, disability or economic circumstances, and the world of their carers. Care is a fundamental Christian virtue and we would see care and compassion as key to the Carmelite ethos.
PLACEMENT:
Pupils organise their own placements. Any placement that offers the pupil an opportunity to be with people who need care in our society and their carers is appropriate.
Each year a Commissioning Service is held for the Transition Year pupils going on "Care Week" during the last week of the Second Term. This Service involves Scripture Readings, Prayers for those the students will be caring for and for the students themselves, washing of feet as an symbol of care and service, as well as music, song and, this year, a Homily from Fr. Eóin. The Service is attended by pupils, teachers and Form Masters.
