BADMINTON - ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONS 2009
BADMINTON - ALL IRELAND CHAMPIONS 2008
SENIOR SCHOOL:
Sports are an integral part of a student’s co-curricular activities. Badminton offers a lot to its participants such as eye and hand co-ordination; speed (the fastest racquet game); fitness and generates an all round sense of well being. Competitively, Terenure participates in the Leinster and Dublin Schools Championships at all levels. We have won at all levels and have an outstanding record which extends to our Irish Championship successes. Many of our players have played for Ireland and Leinster at Under 14, 16 and 19 age levels. We usually enter three or four teams at all levels – Senior, Junior and Minor.
If you want to join, play and enjoy this game come along in September and take part. Beginners are very welcome. We begin on Monday the 6th of September. Mike Adams is Coach. When the Leagues begin Margaret Cox is Secretary and Match Organiser. All enquiries to Margaret Cox at 4904621 or 087 6160149.
Gym Times:
Under 14s (Minors) Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 4.15 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Under 16s (Juniors) Mondays and Thursdays 4.15 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Under 19s (Seniors) Mondays and Thursdays 4.15 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
All teams will be entered in the various Championships, beginning in mid-October, including the Leinster and Dublin Championships leading to the All Ireland.
The Dublin Open Under Age Championship takes place in the College during the Halloween break. We would like as many Terenure players taking part. This competition was begun in 1983 with this in mind. Many of our players over the years won the different titles and went on to represent their Country and Province.
We have a Junior Club (Terenure College Badminton Club) catering for both Junior School and Senior School pupils and anybody else who wishes to join. It is on every Saturday beginning the first Saturday in September. Interested? Contact Susan Parkinson at 087 9499110.
JUNIOR SCHOOL:
Badminton is played by the pupils in Fifth and Sixth Class.
Badminton times in the Junior School are set at the beginning of each year. The pupils normally play Badminton for 40 minutes at lunchtime. The pupils are involved in class competitions and participate in the Annual Leinster Primary Schools Competition.
