ALL IRELAND BADMINTON CHAMPIONS 2009 ...

The All-Ireland Badminton finals were held in Gormanston College on Saturday March 28th. It was on outstanding day for us, both for the excitement of close matches and from the standard of our play. In a full day of excitement Terenure College emerged with a first place in Ireland Under 16’s. Also in the Under 14’s Division 1 final our boys came runners-up. The boys put in a lot of extra training to reached this major event.
Our U14a Team Division 1 – Robbie Neill, Niall Reynolds, Paraic Rowan and Conor Doyle won (5-1) against Royal & Prior (Ulster). However, they were unlucky as they were edged out by Friends, Lisburn in the last game. Friends proved a little too strong for them. Second in Ireland! Well done lads! Last year Robbie was on the successful U14 team in the All-Ireland Finals. With one Gold and one silver All-Ireland medals to date– not bad in your second year in the College
In the U16 Division 1 Section - Adam Jermyn, Graham Doyle, Rory Curry, Jack Lawler and Mark Lavelle entered the competition as Provincial Champions, they beat Carrigaline Community school (Munster) (6 – 0) in the opening match. In the second and final game all players took on Friends (Lisburn). The played excellent games which led the team to glory with a comprehensive (5- 1) win to secure the All-Ireland Title. Last year Adam, Graham and Rory were runners-up against Friends in the U16’s All-Ireland finals.
* Adam and Rory have accumulated two Gold and one Silver medals in their four years here in the College , Graham with 2 Gold and one Silver in his three years, Jack and Mark with 2 Gold All-Ireland Medals in their two years. All the players are looking very hopeful for the future.
A big thank you to Margaret Cox, Manager of our Badminton Teams, for all her work throughout the year. Also to our Coaches, Mike Adams and Mark Topping and all who worked for this success including parents and teachers.
