OFFICIAL OPENING OF GAELIC PITCH BY GAA PRESIDENT, MR. CHRISTY COONEY
Followed by Senior Football Match
Terenure Invitational Team Vs Dublin Development Team
Saturday, 28th November 2009.
It is widely known that rugby is the principal sport of the College, however, we are very proud to have been the first school to affiliate with the newly formed GAA on the 24th of October 1885. Over the last five years we have successfully re-introduced Gaelic Games to the College and have entered both Hurling and Football teams at all levels of Schools Competition.
As part of our commitment to Gaelic Games, we have developed a new Gaelic Pitch in the grounds of the College and we have also made this pitch available for use to surrounding local National Schools.
On Saturday, 28th November 2009 our Gaelic Pitch was officially opened by the GAA President, Mr. Christy Cooney.
We marked this occasion with a match involving a Dublin Development Team and a Terenure College Invitational Team. The College team consisted of past pupils and staff of the College involved in Senior Club and Intercounty Football as well as some invited guests such as Mattie Forde of Wexford. Amongst the Past Pupils involved were: Cillian Byrne, Conor O’Reilly, Cathal Morley, Mark Jones, Ken Devine and Darren O’Reilly of Templeogue Synge Street, Shane McCann of Ballinteer St. John’s, Joey Donnelly, Declan DA Donnelly and Paul Cunningham of St. Jude’s, Conal Keaney, Shane Durkin and Andrew Kerin of Ballyboden St. Enda’s
